Delete and Reassign a WBS

Quickly manage outdated WBSs with task and activity assignments while building and updating a project or program schedule. Delete a WBS and the associated object will be reassigned to another WBS without slowing your workflow. You also have options to delete the associated tasks and activities, or to delete the activities only. When you reassign tasks or activities to a different WBS, those tasks and activities will reflect the new assignment anywhere they are used in the application. For example, task plans and alternate schedules using those objects will be updated. When you attempt to delete a WBS that has task or activity assignments, you'll receive a prompt to reassign or delete its objects.

Note: You must have the Project-level Add, Edit, and Delete privileges enabled for Activities, Baselines, Scenarios, and WBS to use this feature.

The functionality described in this topic applies to the following pages in the application:

To delete and reassign a WBS on a list page:

  1. Navigate to the main table on a list page, and select a WBS row.
  2. In the Context menu, select Delete.
  3. In the Delete WBS dialog, choose from the following options:
    • Reassign associated activities and tasks: Deletes the WBS and reassigns all associated activities and tasks to a new WBS selection.
      • Select WBS: Opens a selector that defaults reassignments to the parent WBS, when deleting one WBS, or to the root WBS, when deleting multiple WBSs. Alternatively, you can use the selector to reassign a different WBS to all activities and tasks.
    • Delete associated activities and tasks: Deletes the WBS and all of the associated tasks and activities.
    • Delete associated activities only: Deletes the WBS and all of its associated activities. Associated tasks will be automatically reassigned to the parent WBS.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. In the Confirmation message, select Yes to commit your selection.

Note: You do not have the option to delete tasks when working in a baseline or scenario schedule variation.
